TT Residential, Harper Adam’s University- 1-3 Aug 25

Our residential this year took place in Shropshire and, as usual, we had a fabulous time. We were based at the Harper Adams University just outside of Newport.

This was a perfect setting and the staff there deserve a big round of applause. They could not have been more helpful and welcoming.

Trekkers sat around a circular table for  breakfast

After a hearty breakfast Saturday saw us riding out to the RAF Museum at Cosford where we stopped off to have a good look round the exhibits there. If you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Some of us tried the Rocky Road from the canteen and, as a result, we’ve all been placed on a strict calorie controlled diet for the next three months. No chance of running out of energy on the return journey back to Harper Adams.

A total ride distance of just under 30 miles.

Saturday evening, we spent socialising in the “Welly” Bar with the obligatory quiz, compiled by quiz master Paul.  The stokers were clear victors by a very decisive 45 points to 39, well done!

This was followed by a very lengthy but enjoyable game of “killer pool”  that both pilots and stokers participated in. Pilot Andy just edged out pilot Kate to win. Pilot Steve De deserves a mention for his mind-boggling array of trick shots in which he contrived to either miss everything on the table or pot the white, very impressive!

Stephen provides guidance to stoker Mark. The pool table has bright blue bays with one red and the white ball visible as Mark tries to line up his shot.

After another hearty breakfast on Sunday, we set out with a degree of trepidation to have a café stop at the very picturesque Norbury Marina. The weather forecast wasn’t favourable, but we managed to make it there and sit outside for our refreshments without any rain.

A couple of sharp showers on the return journey didn’t dampen our spirits though.

A pair of tandems coming head on, down a wide tarmac path with trees on either side.

Time to reload the trailers and head back to West Yorkshire. Lots of laughs, great cycle routes and overall lots of very happy Trekkers.

A massive thank you as always to all our volunteers who have given their time and energy to ensure a successful trip. Well done everybody and let’s do it all again next year.
