Transpennine Trail – 18 Apr 26

Twelve Tandem Trekkers began our first visit to the Trans-Pennine Trail of 2026. For several Trekkers this was their first experience of this pretty, totally traffic free route in what turned out to be very pleasant riding conditions

Muz and Mark stand by their tandem smiling for the camera, a country park like area behind them.

Tandem pairs were able to enjoy the countryside sounds, sights and smells at their own pace as there is no need for us to stay in a group on this linear route from Penistone to Dunford Bridge and back.

A long straight stretch of off road track with an even and unblemished surface stretches off into the distance, flanked my neat green grass and trees just coming into bed.
This is the best traffic free cycling surface around!

Needless to say, a certain human dynamo and his willing pilot had already left Dunford Bridge and was heading for the extended route to Oxspring before the next team had even got to the half way point. Most chose a more leisurely pace.

A sunny green and pleasant track heading towards a dark stone bridge and tunnel that looks almost black in contrast to its bright surroundings.
Only one team braved the tunnel at Oxspring

Despite a dubious weather forecast we stayed almost entirely dry and were able to sit outside in the sunshine at Julie’s Café. It is easy to see why this route remains one of Trekkers’ firm favourites.

On the green sloped banking purtrudes the rear half of a blue bike. This is part of the transpennine trail art sculptures dotted along the route.
This is TPT art, no Trekkers were harmed during today’s ride.
