This week Tandem Trekkers returned to our old favourite, the Spen Valley Greenway. The forecast rain almost held off and most of the ride was in lovely summer sunshine, with a cool northerly wind to take the edge off the usual June temperatures.

A very green Greenway

Five tandems left TT HQ and ventured along the Calder Valley Greenway through Ravensthorpe and then a sharp left turn that caught a couple of teams out, before a gentle climb up to Oakenshaw and Low Moor. Once on the cycle path our tandems were able to ride at a pace that suited them. There were many families out walking and frequent cries were heard of, “Look mum, there’s another one!” and other sounds of excitement as we carefully passed with an airy “Good morning”, or “Thank you” as they moved over to allow us past.

There was an interesting diversion at Cleckheaton when two teams stopped to assist paramedics who were attending an elderly gent who had collapsed on the path, it’s the kind of caring folk that we have in our lovely club.

Of course, we had to take a break at the Sunflower Pot Café, where Hayley is publicising Ian’s sponsored walk next week.

And the TT crowds descended on our favourites Greenway cafe

We were back at HQ around midday in a slight shower, but with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the afternoon in the sunshine.
