Scapegoat Hill and Pizza- 16 Aug 25

The blazing sun of the past couple of days was conspicuous by it’s absence this morning.

Indeed there was a bit of a nip in the air as we arrived at Scapegoat Hill Baptist Church car park. You could also detect an air of nervous apprehension among those gathered. Would they be able to conquer Buckstones Climb?

A good show of nine tandems did a warm up lap of the village before heading off up the the 8k stretch to the car park at the top. We stopped a couple of times to regroup but soon enough we were there and wondering what the fuss had been about.

Stevie at the front of trekkers disembarking at the summit of Buckstone climb. Stevie is wearing a white and red polka King of the mountains TDF jersey, other are wearing hi vis cars and jerseys.

Drew was also wondering why the usual ice cream van wasn’t there! A promise of one at the end seemed to appease him and he and Richard set off like March Hares on the descent.

Fifteen minutes later we were all on the final ‘kicker’ on Taylor Lane then doing an honourable dismount to walk the last few yards up the steep, unadopted Grand Stand up to Keith’s house.

Drew and Chris at the finish, taking off helmets ready for a dash to pizza and icecreams!

Except we didn’t all walk up. As we got to the house we turned to see Steve and Muz attempting the almost impossible and riding up! Chapeau to them for nearly making it too!

Trekkers including Michael, Richard and Katie sat on Keith’s terrace overlooking the valley in the distance.

In summary, a shorter ride in both distance and time but still with plenty of effort required by all.

Amar Latif on Keith’s static trainer bike.

And beware folks, next year we’ll make it a bit further!

NB. A massive thank you from TT to Keith and Anne for opening their home and the hospitality given for this ride and social event.
