8 tandems were out this week for a trip to Dalby Forest. We were lucky to be joined by Anne on her new solo electric bike.

The weather could not have been more of a contrast to last years Dalby ride which made it a much more enjoyable day.

If anything it was a bit too hot and we were very glad of the shady parts of the ride and a breeze when we were whizzing along the downhill sections.

It wasn’t a route for the fainthearted as the first half a mile resembled a red mtb route and we needed to walk some of it as pedals were striking the ground and there was risk of the bottom bracket getting stuck on a bump.

Fortunately for our nerves the remainder of the route was forest tracks and some more open sections with lovely views of the north yorkshire landscape. We only had one slight detour when we missed a turning, it could have been more as the GPS signal was disappearing at times.

The main route was 12 miles in length although it seemed longer with being off road and a rougher surface than we are used to on most rides. Most tandems added another 5 miles of forest road by cycling to the visitor centre cafe where we refuelled before the trip home.

It was a long, hot, dusty, sticky, sweaty day but there were plenty of laughs and lots of chat and everyone had a good time.

Excellent day out! We saw parts of the forest we have never seen before!
Great ride was had by us all thanks to Lou for leading, and Dave for transport and being my Pilot. Thanks to everyone for the camaraderie we make a great club together.
